The only member of the Inachis genus, the Peacock is a common resident butterfly of Europe. The adults hibernate over the winter, so it is one of the first butterflies to appear in the spring.

So named because it is the most common culinary frog in Europe, it is a hybrid of the Pool Frog (P. lessonae) and the Marsh Frog (P. ridibundus). Unlike many hybrids, it is fertile, but can only produce healthy offspring if it mates with one of the two parent species.
